1.3 About Amending, Reviewing and Updating a Constitution The constitution of an association is a contract between the association and its members. The constitution must not only reflect the nature of the association but must also ensure that the rights of its members are protected. 7. Incorporated Associations

7.1 General Information and Links

The conduct of an incorporated association is governed by the Associations Incorporations Act 2009 and its Regulations. The government instrumentality that has responsibility for policing compliance is NSW Fair Trading.

Committee members have a duty to ensure that their U3A is conducted in accordance with the law . You must therefore familiarize yourself with the relevant law. 8. The Blue Book

A copy of the Blue Book is issued to every U3A in the territory of U3A Network  NSW INc. It contains an excellent guide to what you need to know about U3A and the running of a  U3A. Read in conjunction with the above listed Guides should provide every committee member with a good grasp of their legal obligations and the matters about which they need to be informed.

The Blue Book is currently being reviewed as there may be some matters that require updating. They are unlikely to be extensive. The Blue Book should remain the first port of call for all matters U3A!
